NHS issue new requirements for practitioners of CAM
The Acting National Coordinator for Cancer Peer Review met recently with representatives from the General Regulatory Council for Complementary Therapies (GRCCT) and the main Profession Councils to review the measures and the current Network Guidelines for the use of Complementary Therapies in Cancer Care.
GRCCT and NCPR have agreed to work together to review the measures and generate sample criteria to fulfil the revised measures. The criteria will be available to Cancer Networks for adoption.
"We are happy to be working with, and guided by, the lead bodies in CAM for the benefit of patient care and safety" - Acting National Coordinator, Cancer Peer Review, Ruth Bridgeman.
CAM practitioners who hold current registration with the General Regulatory Council for Complementary Therapies will be seen to meet criteria in relation to Patient Safety.
"The requirements of this criterion serve to ensure that cancer patients who chose to use Complementary Therapies receive high level care both inside and outside of the National Health Service," - Barry Tanner, Senior Project Manager, GRCCT.
