It’s our Ruby Anniversary!

A message from our Chair in celebration of our 40 years at the heart of Healing.

We are the professional community for Healing organisations, trainers and individuals.  We welcome all forms of Healing:

  • Spiritual
  • Energy
  • Psychic
  • Crystal
  • Reiki
  • Colour
  • Spirit Release
  • Shamanic etc.

We also manage the long established British Register of Complementary Practitioners, which represents other forms of complementary therapy.

Our membership includes individual therapists and healers, their training schools… and we are growing! 

We are very proud also to include organisations and individuals from around the world. 

The trust we have built up over the past 40 years was never more reinforced than in 2020, when we had to radically re-organise our work to support our members, empowering them to provide a COVID-secure practice when allowed.  The CHO was the first to fully inform their members (from Day 1) and keep everyone posted every month.

Key Milestones

1981   The CHO became the pioneering umbrella group for Healing organisations throughout the UK (we still are!).

2000    We raised the public profile of Healing throughout the UK and Europe and ensured its inclusion and importance in the House of Lords Complementary and Alternative Medicine Report in 2000.

2010-2015   The CHO funded and worked with the University of Northampton Psychology Division to carry out two meta-analyses of published trials of healing to examine critically any scientific evidence for the effects of non-contact healing.  The peer-reviewed outcome was published in the journal Explore

2015    We surveyed healing practices in the UK to find out more about practitioners and their clients, why people seek healing and beneficial outcomes. The findings were analysed by the University of Exeter Medical School and published in Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice. 

2017    We took over the management of the British Register of Complementary Practitioners embracing a much broader membership of healing therapies, now welcoming all pathways.

2021   A package of support was created for CHO and BRCP members with regular bulletins and the implementation of a monthly online peer support group providing advice and guidance about returning to and running a COVID secure practice. 

2022    The CHO qualified for and earned the right to use the Charity Excellence Framework Quality Mark.
