TLC charity awarded £4000 to help fund free complementary therapy service
The Sussex Community Foundation has awarded TLC – a charity helping people in the community - £4,000 from the Lisbet Rausing Hospice Fund.
TLC - Tending, Listening and Comforting - is a Bordon-based charity founded in 2010 by Jacinta Grange-Bennett, a nurse from King Edward VII Hospital. It recruits volunteers who provide befriending and practical support for adult individuals and their carers, respite time, practical assistance (light shopping, collecting prescriptions), accompanied visits/trips and a sharing of interests. Elderly members of the community or those suffering from an illness can often feel isolated.
Professional Complementary Therapists provide therapies at a reduced rate so the Charity can provide all therapies free; offering reflexology, aromatherapy massage, reiki, indian head massage, 'M' technique or just gentle hand massage for the frail and elderly.
Unpaid family carers save the government £119bn a year, but many feel exhausted and forgotten, so some relaxing treatment benefits both them and the person they look after.
TLC recently received Big Lottery funding from the Reaching Community Grant, to enable the charity to reach people within a 25-mile radius of their office in Bordon, taking in Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire. It does, however, have to raise more funds in order to provide its services.
