Sudden and tragic passing of Dr Peter Fisher

16th August 2018

It is with great shock and sadness that we report the death of Dr Peter Fisher in a road accident near the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine (RLHIM) on 15th August 2018.  We understand that Dr Fisher was involved in a cycling accident and died at the scene.

Dr Gill Gaskin, medical director at University College London Hospitals, said: "We are all deeply shocked and saddened to learn that Dr Peter Fisher tragically died in a road traffic accident yesterday.

"Peter was a highly regarded colleague and friend of many at the RLHIM, where he worked for more than 35 years."

Dr Fisher will be "greatly missed by his colleagues and patients alike", she added.

Dr Fisher was Director of Research at the hospital, Europe’s largest centre for integrative medicine.  He was also Physician to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.  He was previously Honorary Consultant Rheumatologist at King’s College Hospital.

A graduate of Cambridge University and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and the Faculty of Homeopathy, he was a widely published expert in rheumatology and forms of complementary and alternative medicine.  Dr Fisher chaired the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) working group on homeopathy and was a member of WHO’s Expert Advisory Panel on Traditional and Complementary Medicine.  He was awarded the Albert Schweitzer Gold Medal of the Polish Academy of Medicine in 2007.

It is no exaggeration to say that the loss of Dr Fisher is huge to the complementary and alternative medicine community.  Our thoughts are with his family and colleagues at this sad time.
