Hairdressers trained to spot signs of cancer
A skin cancer expert nurse is showing trainee hairdressers how to look out for the signs of cancer among their clients.
Clinical nurse specialist Billy Hefferon told Nursing Standard magazine: ‘I have had patients who have been aware of a growth for years and have not sought medical advice. But they ask their hairdresser to disguise it.’
Mr Hefferon, who works for East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, added: ‘The most common site for skin cancers is from the neck up, so hairdressers are in a prime position to spot them.’
